The young couple started their ministry at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in Fort Worth, while Dan completed his Master of Religious Education degree at Southwestern Seminary from 1961 to 1965. In 1963, Dan served in student ministry and revival preaching in the Japan New Life Crusade, 还有那一年, 收到了J. M. Price Scholarship Award as the most outstanding student in the school of religious education. In 1967, Dan accepted a position as university minister at First Baptist Church in Lubbock, 德州, where the resident student membership grew from less than two hundred to almost two thousand under his leadership.
